In general can be summarized in those following steps: |
- There will be an eyepiece in the telescope. If you need your own instrumentation, you must bring them one day before.
- Before the observations, you must contact with the person responsible that night, named "Operador", on the telefone number 7702.
- The "Operador" turns on the electronics needed for Mons telescope works.
- The telescope is completely manual and you've to perform some tasks of opening the dome by the handles. You must unplug the mechanism before rotate dome.
- Don't forget to remove the caps of viewfinder and telescope. Firstly move on declination and after use the staircase. NEVER tilt the telescope below 15° in height because the primary mirror loose.
- To move the telescope in R.A. you must remove the main brake, which also activates tracking.
- There is a handle (big and yellow) with a button to disengage in R.A. (if you hold it and you're going to hear a low noise). Always hold the telescope to disengage by the handles or the heavy counterweight.
- The viewfinder has an illuminated reticle that is connected through a switch beside. You can also regulate its intensity.
- To focus on a small knob use to slowly move the secondary mirror.

If you need to change of meridian the telescope, carefully do the following sequence: |
- Remove tracking, locking the telescope completely.
- Move the telescope in declination until it is parallel to the polar axis.
- Loosen the brake R.A., holdg the telescope by the handles and disengage with the control (yellow).
- Slowly move the telescope above the pillar to where you need it.
- Remember never to tilt the telescope must be below 15° from the horizontal.

When finish the observation, follow the sequence: |
- Place the caps of the viewfinder and telescope.
- Close the dome, unplug the mechanism and target to South.
- Place the telescope in a vertical position and brake with the main lock.
- Call the "Operador" at 7702 to review and close the telescope.
